A 57-year-old man, Adebayo Olowolayemo, was on Wednesday remanded in prison by an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.

Olowolayemo was said to have lured the girl into his house.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 14 in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of the state.

Okunade explained how the man allegedly defiled the minor, said, “The victim was sent on an errand by her mother in the neighbourhood and the defendant saw her and lured her into his house and had carnal knowledge of her.

“The offence contravenes Section 31 (2) of the Child Rights Law Cap C7 of Ekiti State, 2012.”

The police prosecutor said the case file had been duplicated and forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

The court did not take the plea of the defendant.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, adjourned the case till September 27 for mention and ordered that Olowolayemo be remanded in prison custody.
