Group identifies causes of APC’s electoral loss in Oyo

A group, the Oyo APC Reformers, on Sunday identified internal crisis, lack of direction and lopsided political appointments at the state and federal levels as some of the factors that contributed to the dismal outing of the All Progressives Congress in the recently concluded elections.

The group claimed that public office holders in the state and at the federal levels were not giving back to the people as expected.

Its position was contained in a statement made available to journalists by its state secretary, Alhaji Sulaimon Rahamon.

The group urged the party leadership to ensure that the “real APC members” are appointed when reconstituting the Federal Executive Council and making other federal appointments.

The statement read, “One of the major contributors to the failure of our party at the last election is the apolitical nature of some of the people currently appointed into federal positions from the state.

“Out of the nine federal special assistants appointed from the state, none of them is a known member of the party or took part in the electioneering process for President Muhammadu Buhari in the state.

“Now that Oyo APC has no state power, such positions must now be given to technocrats and loyalists within the party who will use the posts to deliver dividends of democracy as indicated in the party’s manifesto, for political patronage and future success of our party in Oyo State.”
