After two months in captivity, Joint Task Force Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) troops in Zamfara have freed five women and two infants.

This was disclosed in a statement made on Thursday in Gusau by Lt. Suleiman Omale, the Operation’s information officer.

Five women and two infants were successfully rescued by troops in Zamfara State after they boldly struck the Kuyambana woodland.

They were abducted in January 2024 in the Kagara local government area of Niger state from Marange village.

“After months of being held captive, the victims were freed as a result of the constant offensive actions conducted by the watchful forces in the Kuyambana area.

According to Omale, “the victims’ escape from the terrorists’ enclaves came as a result of the troops’ unwavering pressure on the bandits, which led to the successful rescue operation.”

The victims went through debriefing sessions, he continued, and they were immediately turned over to the appropriate authorities so that the appropriate steps could be taken to get them back together with their family.

Maj. Gen. Godwin Matkut, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division of the Nigerian Army Sokoto, commended the soldiers’ professionalism during the rescue effort.

“Omale stated that Matkut encouraged them to keep up the momentum until all nefarious elements are eliminated, guaranteeing the return of peace and normalcy in the area.” (NAN)
