ABEOKUTA—On Saturday, a man named Sunday Ogah drowned in a river in the Odogbolu Local Government Area of Eyinwa community of Ogun State.

In a statement made yesterday in Abeokuta, Omolola Odutola, the spokeperson for the Ogun State police command, stated that Otusanya Abayomi of Igbe Ilara reported to the community police station that, at around noon, he and his friend entered the community and he told them that his deceased friend had left him and the others to go somewhere unknown without telling anyone.

Abayomi claimed he learnt later that the aforementioned Sunday had gone swimming in the Eyinwa River, where he had drowned.

“The DPO Odogbolu detailed surveillance police officers in cooperation with some divers to locate the corpse upon receipt of the information, but their efforts proved futile,” the statement reads.

“In the meantime, efforts are being made to locate the body and get in touch with the family to let them know about the tragic event.” The text of the statement says.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Police Command, Alamutu Abiodun while offering condolences to the deceased family and loved ones during this difficult time reaffirmed the commands commitment to advancing public safety and averting similar tragedies in the future.
