Effective Tuesday, the curfew that was previously in place in the Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan areas between 6 pm and 8 am has been lifted by the Kaduna State Security Council.

Samuel Aruwan, the overseeing commissioner for internal security and home affairs, made this announcement on Tuesday.

“After an extensive review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs, the Kaduna State Security Council under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani has removed the current 6 pm to 8 am curfew completely.

“The removal of the curfew is effective immediately, from today Tuesday, August 13, 2024,” the statement read.

The 24-hour curfew that was imposed following the violence that greeted the state’s #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria initiative was earlier eased by the state security council.

However, Aruwan pointed out in the statement that the curfew was lifted after a thorough assessment of the security situation in these areas.

He urged law-abiding citizens in both cities to now go back to their regular activities without any time restrictions.

To avoid disrupting public order, the state government did, however, issue a strong warning about public gatherings and processions and urged citizens to obtain permission from the appropriate authorities.

The statement emphasised the security forces’ unwavering vigilance and their willingness to take decisive action against any persons or groups threatening peace.

According to the statement, the governor reaffirmed his dedication to inclusive governance and gave his word that he would keep corresponding with all relevant parties in order to preserve harmony and peace across Kaduna State.

“The Kaduna State Security Council, after an extensive review last night, unanimously agreed to lift the curfew and reaffirmed its dedication to the safety and security of all residents,” the statement concluded.
