The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected quack doctor for running an illegal clinic in Ore, Ore/Odigbo Local Government Area.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the police command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday.
Jimoh explained that the arrest was carried out as part of the police’s ongoing efforts to tackle medical criminal networks across the state.
He said the suspect, Idris Nasiru was taken into custody during an intelligence-led operation by the command’s intelligence and Surveillance Team.
“A search of his shop led to the recovery of injection needles, medical drips, bandages and assorted medical kits.
“Further searches of his residence recovered used injection bottles, needles and syringes, following a duly signed search warrant,” he said.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is not a registered medical practitioner, confirming that the clinic was operating illegally.
Jimoh added that the suspect made helpful statements in custody and will be arraigned to court after the conclusion of investigations.
He said the Commissioner of Police urged residents to provide credible information to support ongoing efforts against crime and criminality.
The police also warned the public to be cautious when seeking medical attention, in order to prevent becoming victims of quacks.
Jimoh reassured them that the command was still dedicated to eradicating medical crimes in all forms.
