A 23-year-old woman was rescued alive after falling into a well in Gurungawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State on Tuesday.

Saminu Abdullahi, the Kano State Fire Service’s public relations officer, verified the occurrence in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Abdullahi claims that at about 12:25 a.m., a homeowner named Lawan Aminu called the Emergency Response Unit in despair to report the accident.

The agency’s headquarters sent a rescue squad to the location immediately.

The squad located and securely rescued the woman, who was named as Ladidi Muhammad Sani, upon arrival.

Later, she was handed over to Abdullahi Sani, her father.

“We are grateful that our team acted quickly and was able to rescue the young woman alive. This highlights the importance of vigilance around open wells and other hazardous areas,” Abdullahi stated.

The cause of the incident is still being investigated.

The rescue comes amid a series of fatal accidents involving wells and open water bodies in Kano.

Earlier reports on Monday indicated that a 30-year-old man died after entering a well to retrieve a burning gas cylinder in Gwarzo Local Government Area of the state.

Similarly, on Friday, the agency reported that two children lost their lives in separate drowning incidents in Kano.

According to Abdullahi, 18-year-old Yusif Malam-Gwani drowned in an open water body at Bachirawa, Kwanar Madugu, in Ungogo Local Government Area.

In a related incident, an eight-year-old boy, Abdussalam Ibrahim, reportedly fell into a well at Kofar Yamma, Karaye town, in Karaye Local Government Area.

The Fire Service took the opportunity to warn the public about the dangers of open wells and other hazardous areas, urging everyone to observe necessary safety precautions to prevent similar accidents.
