A heavy-duty truck crashed into a residential structure in Aramoko-Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government Area, Ekiti State, killing Promise Farotimi, a 300-Level student at Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.

Rufus Farotimi, the father of the dead, called for justice and immediate aid after the tragedy, which happened over the weekend in the town’s Oke-Ila neighborhood, left the victim’s family homeless.

It was reported that, Promise, a 21-year-old Building Technology student, was asleep when the truck struck their home.

Speaking on Sunday, the grieving father called the occurrence a terrible double tragedy—the destruction of his home and the death of his son.

“My son was killed in the accident, and I am the owner of the house. Everything is gone. I have lost my child and my shelter. I don’t even have clothes anymore; what I am wearing was given to me by my younger brother,” he lamented.

He claims that the truck driver left the site as soon as the collision occurred, but locals captured his aide, also referred to as the “operator boy.”

Waybills and other documentation found in the car, according to Farotimi, showed that the truck was transporting natural gypsum and had a corporate letterhead identifying Shuaibu Yusuf as the driver.

He expressed concern that the motorist was still at free days after the tragedy, even though he acknowledged that law enforcement officers quickly evacuated his son’s body and started an investigation.

He encouraged the corporation connected to the vehicle to accept responsibility for the disaster and pleaded with security services to step up efforts to capture the escaping suspect.

The issue has been moved to the State Traffic Section for a comprehensive investigation, according to SP Abutu, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), on Sunday.
