A tragic incident occurred in Akungba-Akoko, located in the Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a nine-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by a truck in a fatal accident.
According to reports gathered on Monday, the accident happened on Sunday at about Supare Junction along Supare Road.
A community source disclosed that the victim, whose identity was not immediately revealed, was promptly taken to a nearby hospital following the accident, where she was later pronounced dead.
The spokesperson of the state Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, also confirmed the incident on Monday.
Jimoh also noted that the driver of the truck had been arrested.
He said, “The Ondo State Police Command regrets to confirm a fatal motor accident in Akungba-Akoko, resulting in the death of a nine-year-old girl, Fatima Ibrahim.
The victim was reportedly knocked down by an unregistered Mercedes-Benz tipper truck and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was sadly confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The driver of the vehicle has been arrested, and the vehicle has been recovered for inspection. An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident.
The command commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures the public that justice will be served.”
The Police Public Relations Officer appealed to drivers to be cautious and comply fully with traffic rules in order to avert preventable accidents.
