A 15-year-old boy known only as Gift passed away due to possible consequences from a drug overdose that he allegedly took in an effort to gain weight.

In an interrogation video posted on Twitter on Thursday, Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the Delta State Police Command, revealed specifics of the incident.

He claims that the youngster consumed many tablets of a medication known as dexamethasone, which was purportedly supplied to him by his buddy Destiny Akpofure, who warned him that it might cause him to gain weight.

He mentioned that Gift became sick a few days after taking the drug and eventually passed away from the problems that followed.

Edafe wrote, “A very sad case of a 15-year-old who took sachets of dexamethasone tablets and swallowed several tablets at once.

Asked why they were taking the drug, his friend, from whom he got it, said they were taking the drug to make them gain weight and eat more.

The boy fell sick days later and was told by the suspect not to disclose that he had taken an overdose. He died four days later.”

Akpofure recalled what had happened before the incident, saying he had gotten the substance at a party from another acquaintance.

Speaking in Pidgin English, he clarified that when Gift enquired about the drug’s intended use, he informed him that it may induce sleep, increase appetite, and cause weight gain.

The deceased asked to see the medication, he continued.

Before giving them to others, Akpofure claimed to have taken some of the tablets himself.

He said, “I collected the drug from a friend at a party. I asked him to introduce me to a medicine that would make me gain weight, and he gave me the drug, saying it would make me eat, sleep, and get fat. I took four tablets.

I was pressing my phone when my friend (Gift) asked to see the drug. He said he was not going to take it, but after a while, I saw him put many tablets in his mouth and chew them.

I asked why he was taking it and told him that even if he wanted to take it, that was not the right way,” he said.

As his condition deteriorated on the fourth day, Gift finally revealed what he had taken, according to Edafe.

He said that Akpofure will face legal consequences and issued a warning against drug misuse.
