During a patrol in the state capital of Ibadan, the Oyo State Police Command apprehended three alleged armed robbers using toy pistols.
In a statement provided to reporters in Ibadan on Monday, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command’s spokeswoman, revealed this.
Six separate cell phones were discovered in their hands, according to Ayanlade, along with the plastic weapon hidden in a black bag.
According to the statement, “A Bajaj motorcycle with registration number BDJ 386 QH was intercepted by Bodija Housing Division operatives on routine stop-and-search duty along Awolowo Road, Bodija, on April 6, 2026, at approximately 1230 hours.”
Godwin Cletus, a 26-year-old male, was riding the motorbike with two pillion passengers, Adedokun Isah, a 17-year-old, and Rafiu Usman, a 19-year-old, who were all from the Gbaremu neighbourhood of Ibadan. The suspects and their possessions were thoroughly searched as a result of the interception, which was founded on reasonable suspicion.
During the search, six different cell phones were discovered in their hands, along with a toy weapon hidden in a black bag. This finding raised suspicions and gave them good reason to be arrested right away because it raised the possibility that they were involved in criminal activity.
According to Ayanlade, the suspects admitted to robbing unsuspecting members of the public of their goods during questioning. She added that the suspects’ confessional confessions had subsequently produced helpful leads, bolstering continuing investigative efforts.
“Consequently, the suspects have been taken into custody, while a comprehensive investigation has commenced to determine the full extent of their criminal operations and to identify other possible accomplices within their network,” the statement added.
Residents were reassured by the command of its dedication to protecting people and property throughout the state, and they were informed that more information will be shared as investigations moved forward.
Recall that after an operation in Owerri resulted in the recovery of a stolen motorbike and a pump-action rifle, the Imo State Police Command detained two suspects in armed robbery on Monday.
The suspects, named as 25-year-old Sohnani Bitrus and 25-year-old Burfa Selkap, were apprehended on April 3 by agents of the New Owerri Divisional Headquarters based on reliable intelligence, according to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye.
