Dele Odule, a seasoned Nigerian actor, has disclosed that he was so frustrated by his personal and professional difficulties that he once went so far as to price his own coffin.
In an interview with Feelright TV, the actor revealed this; a video of the interview appeared online on Wednesday.
Odule described the visit with fellow actress Olaiya Igwe, who became emotional.
“I had priced my own casket before, when I was in a state of hopelessness and complete loss of hope,” he stated in Yoruba. I went there with Olaiya Igwe, Olaiya started crying like a baby.
The actor clarified that while he was not suffering from any ailment at the time, he had grown extremely disheartened by what he perceived to be a lack of advancement in his career in comparison to his contemporaries.
“I wasn’t ill; I just thought I couldn’t make any more progress in the field. I had had enough. Because my life was nothing to write home about and all of my schoolmates were doing far better than me,” he remarked.
Odule started his acting career in the 1970s and gained widespread recognition for his role in the iconic Yoruba movie Ti Oluwa Nile.
