A new chairman has been elected by Nasarawa State Labour Party members who support the Nenadi Usman-led government to steer the party’s operations in advance of the general elections in 2027.

The recently ended party congresses, according to newly elected chairman Asoloko Maku, are proof that the Labour Party in Nasarawa State is still cohesive, resilient, and prepared to take action, he said at a press conference on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital.

He pointed out that the party had shown that its values were based on democracy and the rule of law, despite the “noise” from critics.

“I am honored and privileged to address the press today, not only as the Chairman of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State, but also as a humble servant and a messenger of hope,” Maku declared.

Knowing that the trust placed in me is a call to duty, I took the mandate with a strong sense of responsibility. I’m grateful for this day, Almighty God. I also express my gratitude to the thirteen local government secretaries and chairmen in attendance, who were duly elected during our peaceful congresses.

He promised to lead an inclusive administration that prioritized party unity and grassroots organizing.

“As your chairman, I promise to govern in a transparent, inclusive, and grassroots manner. I encourage everyone to work with us, even those who hold different opinions. We can only achieve our objective of 2027 if we work together. We are a social justice movement, not just a political party,” he declared.

Members were reassured by the newly elected chairman that his administration would prioritize social democracy and make sure that everyone in Nasarawa State benefited from the state’s wealth, not just a select few.

Noting that legal problems within the party had been settled, Maku also advised party members to stay focused and not let outside distractions divert them.

He claims that court rulings from 2025 and 2026 settled the party’s internal leadership disputes and upheld Senator Nenadi Usman’s position as leader.

The April 4, 2025, Supreme Court ruling nullified the convention that allegedly reinstated Barrister Julius Abure and overruled earlier rulings that granted him legal recognition.

“On January 21, 2026, the Federal High Court ruled that Abure’s term had expired and that he was no longer National Chairman. The verdict also instructed INEC to recognize the caretaker committee chaired by Senator Nenadi Usman.

The Court of Appeal judgment of April 21, 2026, unanimously dismissed Abure’s appeal, affirmed Senator Usman as the legitimate leader, and awarded N10 million in costs against him,” he stated.

The Labour Party would keep fighting for the well-being of common Nigerians, Maku continued.

“We will keep fighting for the wellbeing of the common farmer in Doma, the trader in Mararaba, the young in Akwanga, and the dignity of laborers. He declared, “We are here to bring about a nonviolent political revolution that replaces injustice with equity.”

He emphasized that the party must start preparing for the 2027 elections right away.

“The 2027 elections are approaching, and we need to start getting ready right away. Our party structures will be strengthened, trust will be restored, and every vote cast will be safeguarded.

This is an appeal to all state-wide Labour Party stakeholders. The time to work has arrived; the time to fight is over. “Let’s work together to give our people a better option,” he continued.

Maku said that the party was committed to winning elective offices throughout the nation and the state.

In summary, today marks the start of the trip to Aso Rock, Government House, the National Assembly, and the State Assembly. Let’s work with love, honesty, integrity, and determination. The Labour Party is prepared to offer the alternative leadership that the people of Nasarawa State are waiting for,” he continued.
