In Ogbogoro Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, a tricycle rider simply known as IK is accused of killing his fiancée and mother of two after a furious dispute. He then allegedly fled, leaving her corpse with their kids.
The tragedy, which is reported to have happened on Tuesday in Ogbogoro’s CPM Street axis, shocked the neighborhood as some locals attempted to get a peek of the graphic scene in order to verify the terrible news.
A local resident who only gave his name as Senibo told reporters that neighbors and bystanders were drawn to the scene when they saw the woman’s lifeless body and two toddlers inside the tricycle, even though the reason for the altercation could not be determined at the time this report was filed.
“Residents were alerted to a disturbing scene along the street around 7 a.m.,” Senibo said. Inside a stationary tricycle, the deceased body of an adult woman and two small female children under the age of six were discovered.
Thus, officers from the Ozuoba Police Division were called right away. When the police arrived, they began questioning the older child. The girl described to the authorities how, on Monday night, while they were staying at a guest house, her father attacked their mother with an item.
The resident said that the child claimed that the suspect drove them out of the guest house, left the children and their mother’s body inside the tricycle, and then fled, ostensibly to avoid being arrested, after realizing that the woman was unable to stand or speak.
According to our correspondent, the deceased’s sister was phoned by the police and arrived to positively identify the body. The remains were then placed in a mortuary for preservation and additional examination.
It was also learned that the two children had been placed under the care of the late woman’s sister.
Blessing Agabe, a spokeswoman for the Rivers State Police Command, verified the event when contacted and stated that an investigation is underway to make sure the perpetrator is captured and prosecuted.
Agabe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, further said that the Ozuoba Police Division acted quickly after receiving a distress call from a bystander who saw two children and a mother inside a blue tricycle parked on the side of the road.
“The Ozuoba Police Division patrol team quickly arrived at the scene, where officers discovered the lifeless bodies of a woman and two children, ages approximately five years and six months, respectively,” the ASP said.
The suspect then fled after leaving the children and the woman’s body inside the tricycle. The suspect is being investigated in order to apprehend him and prosecute him.
Additionally, ASP Agabe verified that the deceased’s sister is currently looking after the two kids.
