A 32-year-old man named Maxwell Oguanaya was placed under arrest by a UK court on suspicion of killing Taiwo Ekerin, a 41-year-old Nigerian, after an attack in Lewisham, London.

This was revealed by the Metropolitan Police in a statement that was received on Sunday.

According to the authorities, Oguanaya was accused of murder when Ekerin passed away from wounds he received during a fight.

Officers were summoned to Lewisham High Street at approximately 4:40 a.m. on May 24 in response to complaints of an altercation, according to the statement.

Ekerin later passed away from his wounds and was declared deceased on May 30, according to the police.

According to the statement, “Police were called to Lewisham High Street at approximately 04:40 hours on Sunday, May 24, following reports of an altercation.”

When police arrived, they found a 41-year-old male suffering from a severe head injury. Colleagues from the London Ambulance Service treated him on the spot before transporting him to the hospital. He was tragically declared dead on Saturday, May 30.

He can now go by Taiwo Ekerin. Specialized officers are providing help to his next of kin.

Oguanaya, 32, of Eastfield Road, Enfield, was detained on suspicion of murder on June 4 and charged the next day, according to the Metropolitan Police.

On June 5, Oguanaya appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court and was sent under jail pending further proceedings.

He is scheduled to be in court on June 9, according to the police.

On Thursday, June 4, Maxwell Oguanaya, 32 (21.07.1993), of Eastfield Road, Enfield, was taken into custody on suspicion of murder.

”He appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on the same day that he was accused on Friday, June 5. He was placed under remand and will make his next appearance on Tuesday, June 9,” according to the police.

The statement also revealed that a second guy, 34, was detained by police on June 5 on suspicion of murder and is still being held while the investigation is ongoing.

Ekerin stated that the family is requesting public assistance to pay for funeral expenses in a GoFundMe effort.

We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by the loss of our dear Taiwo Ekerin, who died after an unjustified attack on a night out.

Ekerin was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend who was born on December 25, 1984. His loss left an unfathomable hole in the lives of everyone who knew and loved him. He had a unique affinity with his twin brother.

”Above all, Taiwo was a loving father to his daughter, who must now deal with life without her father. He was well-known for his warmth, generosity, sense of humor, and unconditional love for everyone around him. His life was snatched way too soon, and our family is finding it difficult to deal with this terrible loss.

As we get ready to bury Taiwo, we are requesting assistance to pay for his funeral and provide him with the respectable send-off he deserves. Any donation, no matter how small, will help ease the financial burden on the family during this extremely difficult time,” the petition stated.

Out of the £10,000 target, £3,710 has been raised as of the time this report was filed.
