Two suspects who are alleged of producing and distributing tainted alcoholic beverages in the state have been taken into custody by the Anambra State Police Command.
The suspects, identified as 42-year-old Ikechukwu Okeke and 38-year-old Okeke Chukwuemeka, were taken into custody by the Rapid Response Squad/VCRU agents early on Monday morning after the police received reliable information.
The state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the suspects’ arrest in a statement on Monday. He stated that the exhibits taken from them have been secured for forensic analysis and use as evidence, and the suspects are presently under police custody.
The accused were members of a syndicate that specialized in the adulteration and counterfeiting of various alcoholic beverages, according to Ikenga’s preliminary inquiry.
Seaman’s Schnapps, McDowell’s, Eagle Schnapps, Elliot Hot Drinks, and Baileys Fresh Cream are among the products found on the suspects, along with hazardous chemicals purportedly used during preparation.
“Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad/VCRU have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the production and distribution of adulterated alcoholic beverages in the state,” Ikenga stated.
The accused, Ikechukwu Okeke, 42, and Okeke Chukwuemeka, 38, were taken into custody early today, June 15, 2026, after the police received reliable information.
The defendants are part of a syndicate that specializes in adulterating and counterfeiting several types of alcoholic beverages, according to preliminary inquiry.
The suspects allegedly admitted to the crime under questioning and then guided investigators to their mini-factory.
“A number of suspected adulterated alcoholic products, including Seaman’s Schnapps, McDowell’s, Eagle Schnapps, Elliot Hot Drinks, and Baileys Fresh Cream, as well as hazardous chemicals purportedly used in the production process, were found at the facility by police officers.”
Numerous empty bottles, labels, and other packaging materials meant for the ongoing production of the fake drinks were also found.
“The exhibits have been secured for forensic examination and evidentiary purposes, while the suspects are presently in police custody.”
He claims that CP Ikioye Orutugu, the Anambra Commissioner of Police, praised the officers for the operation’s success and cautioned anyone involved in the manufacture and sale of fake consumables to stop or face the full force of the law.
He continued, “Investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate and uncover the extent of their operations.”
