A suspected cult-related shooting at the Post Office district of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, has resulted in four fatalities and two injuries.
According to information, a group of armed thugs allegedly broke into a shanty bamboo bar near the railroad line at around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, opened fire on those gathering there, and then fled.
Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence in a statement released on Monday. He noted that officers quickly responded to the distress call and transported the victims to the police clinic for medical care.
“Police officers quickly responded to the distress call and rushed the victims to the police clinic,” Adetoun said. Unfortunately, medical professionals have determined that four of the victims are deceased, and two more are being treated.
As stated by the police spokeswoman, two suspected members of a well-known cult group have already been taken into custody in connection with the event, and preliminary investigations indicate that the attack was connected to cult operations.
Based on the preliminary findings, the incident is cult-related; thorough investigations resulted in the arrest of two suspected members of a deadly and infamous cult group connected to the attack.
According to the statement, “the suspects are currently in custody and are providing useful information to assist ongoing investigations and facilitate the identification and apprehension of other members of the criminal gang.”
The PPRO assured locals that every attempt would be made to bring the criminals to justice by disclosing that tactical, intelligence, and covert resources had been used to locate everyone involved in the crime.
Adetoun continued, “Tactical, intelligence, and covert assets have been fully mobilized to track down every individual connected to the crime, with a firm commitment that all suspects will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
Ojo Adekimi, the state commissioner of police, responded to the incident by vehemently denouncing what he called a senseless act of violence and criminality and emphasizing that the command considers the attack to be a major threat to public safety and peace.
Ojo stated, “The command sees the incident as a serious threat to public peace and safety and will not relent until all those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
The command urged the public to maintain composure and offer reliable information that could support current investigations, while also sending its sympathies to the relatives of the deceased and wishing the injured victims a quick recovery.
