Ibrahim Olarewaju, a former Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on National Assembly Matters, has refuted allegations that he neglected to relinquish his position prior to running for the All Progressives Congress ticket in May for the Ekiti North Federal Constituency II seat.

The former member of the House of Representatives won the APC primary election for Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, according to Olarewaju’s Media Office, as a “reward for years of grassroots engagement, accessibility, and unwavering commitment to the people through a transparent and democratic process conducted in accordance with APC rules.”

The former legislator “fully complied with all constitutional, legal, and party requirements before participating in the primary election,” according to a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday by Moses Owoyemi on behalf of the media team.

According to Owoyemi, “Olarewaju’s resignation as SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters took effect on March 31, 2026, in compliance with the directive issued to political appointees seeking elective office.” It is false and deceptive to imply that Olarewaju broke any laws by taking part in the primary election. No matter how often they are repeated, allegations do not constitute proof.

“This (his resignation) is a matter of public record and can be independently verified through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, as well as media reports,” the media office said in response to rumors and assertions that the former presidential adviser had not resigned.

“Olarewaju’s track record in public service and legal practice demonstrates honesty, openness, and rigorous adherence to the law.” He has never sought public office by evading established legal procedures, as all who know him are aware.

“The free will of accredited delegates from Moba, Ilejemeje, and Ido-Osi Local Government Areas was reflected in the results of the APC primary election.” The winner was Hon. Olarewaju.

“We appreciate the candidates who have shown political maturity by accepting the outcome of the exercise in the overall interest of party unity and commend party leaders, delegates, and members who behaved peacefully throughout the primary election.”

“Hon. Olarewaju remains focused on the bigger task of uniting all stakeholders within the APC and preparing for victory in the 2027 general election,” the media office stated. He feels that ideas, service, and respect for democratic processes should be the driving forces behind politics rather than disinformation or attempts to undermine the obvious selection of party representatives.

As a result, we implore the public to ignore conjectural assertions that lack substantiation. We continue to have faith in the APC’s internal democratic processes and the capacity of the relevant party institutions to properly, openly, and legally handle any valid issues.

“In Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, the APC is greater than any individual’s aspirations.” It’s time to unite, fortify party cohesion, and cooperate to increase the benefits of democracy for the populace.

While acknowledging that it was common for disgruntled candidates or their supporters to voice complaints following an election, the media office recommended that “such grievances should be pursued through the internal mechanisms provided by the party and, where necessary, the appropriate legal channels, rather than through media campaigns capable of creating unnecessary division within the APC.”
