The All Progressives Congress branch in Osun State has praised the state Police Command for thwarting an alleged attempt on the life of Wole Oke, the Director-General of its Governorship Campaign Council.
The state Police Command had on Thursday paraded a disc jockey, Olalekan Oriyomi, and two others over an alleged attempt to kill Oke in Ipetu Ijesa.
The other suspects displayed with Oriyomi were Ayotunde Ikupolati, 44, and Femi Fakinleye, 31. It was also reported that one of the suspects had an English Beretta handgun that contained four rounds of live ammunition.
In response to the occurrence, the Osun APC praised the police’s proactive efforts to clear the state of criminal elements in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, which was obtained in Osogbo on Friday.
“The state would have gone into yet another mourning period if the alleged assassins had been successful, and the state’s dishonest merchants would have blamed our party without waiting for the police investigation.
“We have absolute confidence in the police that they would do a thorough investigation into the assassination attempt on our Director-General with a view to exposing, arresting and prosecuting all those who may be directly or remotely connected with the crime,” the statement continued.
The party went on, “Should the re-election of a governor who has been categorically rejected by the people due to his abysmal bad performance over the last three years transform the entire state into a killing field?
“Is it through coercion and unethical methods to serve the people who have realized that your best efforts are not desirable for the necessary advancement of the state to an acceptable standard comparable to other prosperous states in the nation?”
However, it voiced worry that many days after the incident, the state chairman of the ruling party, the Accord, Victor Akande, and the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, had not yet denounced the failed attempt on Oke’s life.
“While we applaud the police for the development, we are also urging them to step up their efforts to rid the state of political thugs and pursue the powerful individuals mentioned by the detained suspected assassins who have been confessing like canary birds.”
“Ahead of the upcoming August 15, 2026 governorship election, which our candidate is strategically positioned to win, the ever-dedicated and loyal members of our party should continue unhindered in their constitutionally allowed ways and manners of selling our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, to the electorate,” the APC stated.
