The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended two suspected masterminds reportedly engaged in scamming customers by selling fake phones via a network of agents throughout the state.
As stated on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the suspects, Audu Abubakar and Nasiru Hassan, who both live on Bauchi Street in Yola North Local Government Area, were apprehended after victims reported that the phones they bought were non-working fakes.
“Members of the Adamawa State Police Command have apprehended two individuals for reportedly deceiving unsuspecting clients by offering them fake phones instead of genuine functional devices,” the statement said.
Nguroje mentioned that the items seized from the suspects comprised multiple fake phones and additional evidence.
The statement noted that the Police Commissioner, Kabiru Hassan, instructed that the suspects undergo a comprehensive investigation and face charges in court after the investigation is concluded.
The directive encouraged the public to stay alert and buy exclusively from authorized phone retailers.
“Customers should thoroughly test devices and request receipts prior to making payment,” the statement mentioned.
