Two pregnant women and four toddlers were saved when Ogun State Police Command agents broke up an alleged baby factory in the state’s Mowe region.
Six people were detained in relation to the event, according to the command.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s public relations officer.
According to Babaseyi, the operation was conducted at approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe, in response to persistent information concerning suspected illicit adoption and human trafficking at the institution.
Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who was eight months pregnant, were the two pregnant ladies who were saved, he said.
Four children—two boys and two girls—were also saved during the operation, he continued.
Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya, were among the suspects detained, according to Babaseyi.
The PPRO claimed that additional intelligence-driven operations led police officers to a hospital in the Mowe axis, where Blessing Bright Effiong, a 26-year-old alleged victim, had reportedly given birth to a boy on August 20.
The woman was discovered receiving medical care at the hospital, according to Babaseyi, but it was impossible to determine where her infant was.
According to the statement, “the attending nurse was arrested in order to locate the infant because the whereabouts of the newborn child could not be accounted for.”
The State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, is receiving the case for additional investigation, according to the command.
According to the spokesman, investigators will try to find the missing baby, determine the full scope of the suspected syndicate’s operations, and make sure that any suspect found guilty is prosecuted.
In response, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the police engaged in the operation and reiterated the command’s dedication to combating violent crime, human trafficking, and child trafficking.
Babaseyi continued, “The CP further urges residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police by providing timely and credible information, assuring them that the Command will sustain intelligence-led policing to ensure the safety and protection of all citizens.”
