Disgruntled candidates for the All Progressives Congress House of Assembly in Oyo State have made amends with the party and promised to back President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027 as well as the party’s nominee for governor, Senator Sharafadeen Alli.
Alhaji Mufutau Adisa, the chairman of the state APC House of Assembly Reconciliation Committee, made this announcement on Sunday during a news conference and stakeholder meeting at the International Conference Center in Ibadan, the state capital.
He clarified that all of the disgruntled candidates had decided to accept the party’s choice about the primary results.
According to reports, in advance of the 2027 elections, certain candidates had demonstrated against the emergence of candidates for various elective seats at the party’s primary.
Reconciliation committees, such as the House of Assembly Reconciliation Committee, were established as a result of the development.
According to Adisa, the party’s interests should come first, even though the candidates had the right to voice their concerns about perceived shortcomings.
“During our interaction with the aspirants in their respective areas, they made known their grievances which formed the basis for the protest,” he stated.
“The Reconciliation Committees were established to appease members whose sentiments have been hurt because the APC leadership respects the rights of both aspirants and members.
We applaud the members and hopefuls who feel wronged for their determination to give up on their individual goals. We are grateful that our complaints have been settled, and they have promised to fully support President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027 as well as Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the state APC candidate for governor,” the chairman said.
“The committee is pleased to report that the majority of the aspirants who participated in the primary election, including those who purchased nomination forms and those who did not, have demonstrated commendable sportsmanship, maturity, and commitment to the unity of the party,” stated Abisoye Fagade, the committee’s co-chairman, while reading the communiqué.
They have stated that they are prepared to cooperate amicably with the party’s leadership and one another in order to help the APC win the general elections in 2027.
As part of this agreement, the reconciled candidates promised to back President Bola Tinubu’s reelection and the APC’s candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives, and Oyo State House of Assembly.
The committee especially applauds the candidates for putting the party’s interests ahead of their own and for showing a desire to cooperate in order to fortify the APC throughout the state.
He emphasized, “the list of candidates who took part in the primary election and have agreed to work for the party’s success across the 32 state House of Assembly constituencies in the state.”
Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, the co-chairman of the state Gubernatorial Reconciliation Committee, emphasized the need of party unity in his succinct remarks.
“I have previously won and lost elections for elective political offices,” he declared. I am aware of the requirements. I understand your suffering, but you made the right choice by working for the party’s interests.
Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, a co-chairman of the committee, also spoke and praised the candidates’ choice to work with the party’s leadership.
Mrs. Mabel Williams, Pa Sule Ajibade, Hon. Ramota Okemakinde, Hon. Raji Rasaki, Hon. Obatunde Oladapo, Hon. Kehinde Oloya, Hon. Segun Ajanaku, Hon. Shakiru Fagunwa, and Dr. Gafar Salawudeen are among the committee members, along with Alhaji Mufutau Adisa, Chairman, Aare Abisoye Fagade, Co-Chairman, and Dr. Rotimi Oke-Owo, Secretary.
Recall that on Thursday, August 27, 2026, Bayo Adelabu, a former minister of power and one of the APC’s candidates for the state governorship, stated that his desire to lead the state was not a do-or-die situation.
In a statement issued in Ibadan, Adelabu stated that his choice was made for the party’s advancement prior to 2027 rather than because he lacked proof, confidence, or conviction.
He clarified that he made his choice after consulting with a few party leaders as well as representatives of his followers and loyalists from the state’s 351 wards and 33 local government districts.
Adelabu stated that he had chosen not to file a lawsuit or pursue an appeal inside the party at this time since he was a devoted and dedicated member of the APC.
“This decision is not due to a lack of evidence, confidence, or conviction,” the former minister stated. It should also not be seen as a sign of surrender or a sign that my desire to be Oyo State’s governor is a do-or-die situation.
Instead, I have decided not to further elevate the issue through channels that could exacerbate already-existing differences and jeopardize the unity of our wonderful party in the interest of peace, party stability, and the APC’s broader future in the state.
More significantly, on his recent visit to Oyo, our esteemed National Chairman publicly admitted that several parts of the primary election process were flawed, unfair, and unfair. We think that while an apology or acknowledgment is important, it cannot and should not be used in place of the necessary remedy when there is still a chance to resolve the complaints.
