In the Abini Community in the Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State, some forty young people have vowed to live lawfully after renouncing their affiliation with the Vikings, Klans, and Axemen cult groups.

On August 26, 2026, the teenagers made the commitment as part of a sensitization and engagement program run by the LauraHope Foundation, the Abini Elites Association, which is made up of the Clan Head and Chiefs of the Abini Community, and the Cross River State Police Command.

In a statement made accessible to journalists on Monday in Calabar, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Sunday Eitokpah stated that the program was a component of Commissioner of Police CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue’s proactive, community-based crime prevention policy.

“The Cross River State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo-Geoffrey Ordue, has recorded a significant breakthrough in its proactive, community-based crime prevention strategy, as approximately forty youths associated with the Vikings, Klans, and Axemen cult groups in Abini Community, Biase Local Government Area, renounced their membership and pledged to embrace peaceful and law-abiding lifestyles,” the statement stated.

He stated, “The youths made the commitment on August 26, 2026, during a sensitization and engagement program organized by the Command in collaboration with the Abini Elites Association (AEA), comprising the Clan Head and Chiefs of Abini Community and the LauraHope Foundation.”

The statement claims that the engagement’s main topics were the perils of drug misuse, cultism, and illegal gun ownership.

The Divisional Police Officer of Yakurr Division, CSP Innocent Ayabotu, attended the event on behalf of State Commissioner of Police CP Ajo-Geoffrey Ordue, who exhorted the young people to shun crime and become agents of peace and development in their town.

The risks associated with drug misuse, cultism, illegal gun ownership, and other social vises are the main focus of our participation. He said, “I want to encourage young people to reject criminality and become agents of peace and development in their community.”

The Police Commissioner stated that the development is consistent with the policing framework, which prioritizes intelligence-led and community-oriented policing, and that it reflects the Command’s strategies in stabilizing crime prevention, intelligence gathering, and early intervention to address factors that facilitate youth recruitment into criminal networks.

CP Ordue emphasized that sustainable security necessitates shared accountability between the police, communities, and other stakeholders, praising the traditional authorities, community leaders, LauraHope Foundation, and young people for their cooperation.

In order to prevent criminal activity, safeguard vulnerable young, and maintain peace throughout Cross River State, the Command promised locals that it will keep combining intelligence-led enforcement with preventive interventions and partnership-driven policing.

The Commissioner continued, “We will continue to combine intelligence-led enforcement with preventive interventions, strategic community engagement, and partnership-driven policies to sensitize our youth to reject cultism and other forms of criminality, while encouraging them to become positive agents of peace and development within their community.”
