Governors elected under the All Progressives Congress banner have separated themselves from any collaboration or partnership with anyone prior to the 2027 general elections, asserting their loyalty to the APC and its political framework.
Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, stated this at the conclusion of the governors’ meeting in Abuja late Monday evening, emphasizing that they had not made any formal pact with any individual or opposing party in preparation for the election.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, currently serving in the APC-led Federal Government, has been advocating a Rainbow Coalition initiative in Rivers State to support President Bola Tinubu in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
Wike, involved in conflicts with certain APC governors, revealed in his latest media discussion that Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and Uzodimma were supposedly responsible for his political difficulties.
He stated that this was due to the expanding national reach of his Rainbow Coalition, which he claimed was offering the PDP a platform for politicians aiming to oppose the ruling party’s candidates for governorship and senatorial positions in the upcoming election, against the governors’ interests.
Seemingly in response to Wike’s comments and his efforts to broaden his political reachacross the states, the APC governors announcedthat they would rejectany arrangement that might lead to confusion, split loyalty, or conflicting interests within the party.
Uzodimma, who presented the statement at the meeting’s conclusion, noted that the forum’s main objective was to back official APC candidates across all tiers instead of endorsing outside interests.
He mentioned, “The APC Governors Forum collectively decided that its members will refrain from engaging in, supporting, or endorsing any coalition or political arrangement that might jeopardize the re-election of Mr. President, weaken the APC, or negatively impact any party candidate at any level.
“In essence, the forum does not plan to back any candidate at any level who is not an APC candidate, as our party sponsors the candidates participating in the election.”
“The commitment of the governors’ campaign is solely to all APC candidates.” Every aspect of the party’s campaign structure will correspond with the President’s expectations and the party’s strategic goals.
