A road accident involving a commercial tricycle and a water tanker behind the All Progressives Congress square at the Kanani Academy junction in Gombe State resulted in the deaths of four individuals on Tuesday, including two children.
It was learned that the accident included eight individuals, consisting of two adult men, two male kids, and four female kids, as reported by Samson Kaura, the Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in Gombe State.
Confirming the event, Kaura stated that witness reports suggested the tricycle, commonly referred to as Keke Napep, collided with the water tanker from the rear.
“There was an accident as you pointed out.” According to the eyewitness report we received, a Keke Napep collided with a water tanker from the rear,” he stated.
Kaura stated that the FRSC did not carry out the rescue operation since the accident report arrived at the command late.
“Although we did not perform the rescue due to the delayed report, my team was present and went tothe Specialist Hospital where the victims were taken for care,” he noted.
As per the sector commander, four individuals lost their lives in the accident, whereas two others were injured. The two adult men sustained no injuries.
Nonetheless, the numbers provided by the sector commander indicating the injuries included three individuals—one adult male, one male child, and one female child—as injured, even though he previously claimed only two individuals were injured.
The injured individuals were said to have been transported to the Federal Teaching Hospital and the Specialist Hospital in Gombe for treatment.
The accident also included students from the Government Day Secondary School, Ahmadu Gombe; Government Day Junior Secondary School, Jekadafari, part of the Universal Basic Education program; and Jekadafari Primary School.
