A young guy known as Azeez was beaten to death by suspected cultists after a fight over a missing phone at Oko-Oba in the Agege neighborhood of Lagos State.
The incident happened on Monday, August 3, according to a police source who spoke on Sunday.
The insider said that after attending a party, Azeez got into a fight with some of his coworkers over a misplaced phone.
According to the informant, some of the alleged cultists who were Azeez’s pals later turned the dispute into an attack.
We learned that he died after being attacked by some alleged cultists who were allegedly his pals. A missing phone was the cause of the altercation, according to the source.
According to the source, Azeez later passed away from wounds he received during the attack.
In a post on Saturday, Naija Confra, an anti-cultism advocacy portal, provided more information about the incident, stating that it started on Sunday nite, August 2, during a birthday celebration.
The platform claims that after a brawl that started at the event, one Abela allegedly snatched a phone and gave it to Azeez.
According to the platform, problems arose when the phone’s owner started looking for it.
Azeez allegedly claimed that Abela had given him the phone to retain when the owner and his pals questioned him after the phone was discovered in his hands.
Even when others saw Azeez, Abela, who was seated nearby, denied him. If it weren’t real, Azeez would never accuse Abela, an NBM leader and his supervisor, according to the site.
Naija Confra further claimed that before departing the party, the phone owner and his buddies attacked Azeez because they were unable to confront Abela.
According to the platform, Azeez later approached Abela about his purported denial of handing him the phone, which resulted in a further altercation and an assault.
It claimed that Azeez was attacked after being transported to a different place by purported Neo-Black Movement members.
Abimbola Adebisi, the state police public relations officer, was unavailable for comment since calls to her phone lines went unanswered.
