An attempt to smuggle suspected Indian hemp into the Medium Security Custodial Center (MSCC), Kurmawa in Kano, was reportedly thwarted by the Nigerian Correctional Service’s Kano State Command.
CSC Musbahu Kofarnassarawa, the command’s public relations officer, made this announcement on Monday in Kano.
The incident “occurred on Sunday at about noon, when a 40-year-old man allegedly attempted to throw a substance suspected to be Indian hemp into the custodial center,” according to Kofarnassarawa.
The suspect, who lives in Kano’s Janguza Quarters, was “apprehended by officers of the Armed Squad Unit following their vigilance and prompt response,” according to him.
He claimed that CSC Usman M. Sale, the Commander of the Armed Squad Unit, oversaw the officers’ actions.
Ahmed Yusuf-Lakpene, the Kano State Command’s Controller of Corrections, “commended the officers for their vigilance, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining security in custodial facilities.”
The “command’s zero-tolerance stance toward the smuggling of prohibited items into custodial centers” was reaffirmed by Yusuf-Lakpene.
