A Nigerian woman was detained with 57.18 grams of cocaine worth over Rs29 lakh (about N40.9 million) in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India.
The woman, identified as Lagos resident Emmanuel Joy, was detained by Chandan Nagar police after allegedly being discovered in possession of the substance close to IT Park, Sinhasa, according to a report published by News18 Hindi on Monday.
According to reports, she was transporting cocaine from Mumbai to Indore.
According to the story, Joy was arrested when cops on patrol in the IT Park Sinhasa region observed her carrying a black bag during increased police checks prior to Rakshabandhan and Janmashtami celebrations.
According to the police report, “a foreign woman carrying a black bag appeared suspicious.”
She was allegedly stopped by police and questioned, but “her answers were unsatisfactory,” leading to a search in front of female police officers.
57.18 grams of cocaine that were hidden in a clear bag were reportedly found during the search.
The report stated that the seized material was worth “over 29 lakh rupees.”
“Joy arrived in India from Nigeria on August 14 on a seven-month business visa and was living in Bandra East, Mumbai, where she worked at a hair salon with her sister,” according to News18 Hindi.
Joy allegedly admitted to police during questioning that she bought cocaine at a discount and planned to sell it in Indore for a greater price.
Investigators are, nevertheless, independently confirming her story.
Under Sections 8 and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, a case has been filed against her.
Her passport, visa, and immigration records have all been reviewed by police.
Joy was brought before a judge after her detention and placed under remand while the inquiry was ongoing.
In an attempt to find additional individuals connected to the purported drug network, police have extended the inquiry to look into her cell phone and other digital data.
Investigators are attempting to determine “who purchased the cocaine, who in Indore it was intended to supply, and who else is involved in this network,” according to the report.
The investigation is anticipated to ascertain whether more individuals were involved as well as the scope of the purported supply chain between Mumbai and Indore.
