Retired Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Ahmed vanished after leaving his house in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to see a Fulani guy with whom he had a cattle-rearing arrangement.
Emmanuel Nehemiah, Ahmed’s son, reported that his father left the house on July 23, 2026, following a call from Muhammad Saleh, a Fulani man, inviting him to meet at Rounder along Ayetoro Road before going to Alamutu Market to sell two cows.
Nehemiah claimed that before riding off on his motorcycle to see Saleh, his father informed his wife that Saleh had called to discuss the sale.
“The Fulani man called my father on July 23 and informed him that it was market day at Alamutu in Ogun State, where cows, goats, and other livestock were sold,” he stated. In order to go to the market and sell the cows jointly, he asked my father to meet him at a location named Rounder.
“My father went to see him in Rounder after leaving the house. He stopped to say hello to some of the police officers at a checkpoint there because he was a former superintendent of police.
The police informed us that they had saw him riding his Bajaj motorcycle with the Fulani man when we began our search for him. They claimed that my father was traveling back to Abeokuta from the Alamutu market after carrying the man on the motorcycle.
He further mentioned that the retired officer and Saleh on the motorcycle were later confirmed to have been spotted by police officials at a Rounder checkpoint.
He claims that was the last time he saw his father, who did not come home that evening despite family members’ attempts to contact him.
According to Nehemiah, after the family reported the incident to the police, the case was first handled by the local division before being forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department and the Eleweran anti-kidnapping unit.
“We got the Fulani man’s phone number and started attempting to track his movements and identify people who had been in contact with him,” he added. Both the man’s and my father’s numbers have been turned off.
We also attempted to follow the Fulani man. The data we gathered revealed interactions with other Fulani men and movements inside Oyo State.
“After the case was transferred to the State CID, the police arrested two individuals and turned them over to the anti-kidnapping unit at Eleweran, Abeokuta.”
He was worried that since the matter was transferred, the family had not been informed of any notable developments.
He went on to say that the family was requesting assistance from higher authorities in order to escalate the situation, emphasizing that their top priority was to confirm the former police officer’s survival and safety, especially given his hypertension.
We are especially worried about my father’s health and safety because he also has hypertension. Our first priority is to confirm that he is alive, secure, and in good health before attempting to return him home,” he continued.
Opeyemi Oluborode, the Ogun State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, verified the event when asked about it on Sunday.
He mentioned that Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police, had since instructed the command’s anti-kidnapping section to guaranty the retired police officer’s safe return.
“The incidence is known to the command. The CP instructed the anti-kidnapping team to make sure the man was securely retrieved and reunited with his family as soon as the incident was reported.
“The command is making every effort to guaranty the man’s safe return. Additionally, the command is dedicated to protecting each and every state resident’s life and property,” Oluborode stated.
