Ishaku Idriss, a teenager, died after being struck by a stick during a fight between young people at a wedding ceremony in Yobe State’s Potiskum Local Government Area.
Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency pundit, states that the event happened on March 31 at approximately 1pm.
Makama claims that young people from the villages of Dagare and Yabel were involved in the altercation, which turned violent.
According to Makama’s sources, the fight started when Adamu Suleh, a 16-year-old teenager, allegedly attacked the victim with a stick after being provoked by Shuaibu Yusuf.
Further violence was allegedly caused by the victim’s alleged retaliation during the altercation.
“The fight got worse after one Shuaibu Yusuf, 27, allegedly provoked Adamu Suleh, 16, of Dagare village, to attack Ishaku Idriss, 17, of Yabel village, with a stick.
“During the fight, the victim assaulted Usman Inusa, a 14-year-old boy, who struck him on the head with a stick, resulting in his collapse,” Makama wrote.
Idriss was first brought to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum, he said, before being sent to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu.
However, the person was certified deceased at approximately 4:00 am on April 4, 2026.
Before being moved to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu, he was first taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum. On April 4, 2026, at around four in the morning, he was pronounced dead.
Ahmadu Yusuf, the village chief of Jumma’a Bogocho, reported the matter to the Potiskum Police Division, according to police officials.
“While investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the clash, the suspects involved in the incident have been arrested,” he said in closing.
As of the time this report was filed, Dungus Abdulkarim, the state police public relations officer, had not yet responded to an inquiry, therefore attempts to gain his response were unsuccessful.
