Oba Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo, characterized former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday as a titan of our time, a living legend, and a magnificent leader whose vision continues to impact the future.
To commemorate the former president’s 89th birthday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, his Media and Publicity Director, Bode Durojaye, sent a congratulatory greeting. The Alaafin stated that Obasanjo’s integrity and selfless dedication have taught many lessons that no textbook could.
Obasanjo was elected Nigerian president under the Fourth Republic.
He won the February 1999 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and served between May 29, 1999 and May 29, 2007.
The Alaafin praised him for creating a path for future generations to follow and called his life as a brilliant example of bravery and resiliency, turning trials into triumphs for the populace.
He said, “You are indeed a distinguished and quintessential statesman. Your unwavering dedication to public service, integrity, and the greater good of the nation serves as a beacon of inspiration to us all.

“With each passing year, your leadership carves a deeper legacy in our hearts and the chapters of our history. May this birthday renew your strength, invigorate your spirit, and illuminate the path you lead.
“We celebrate not only the accomplishments of the past but the possibilities of the future. Wishing you the happiest of birthdays and hoping this becomes the best one you’ve had.
