David Salifu, a former secretary to the Benue State government, was shot and killed during an alleged bandit raid on the Wukari-Makurdi route.

Salifu, who served as SSG during the government of former Governor Gabriel Suswam, was also a lecturer at the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State.

It was said that the former SSG was going from Wukari to Makurdi on Thursday when he encountered armed guys who halted his vehicle.

The sources sad intruders apparently forced him to alight from his vehicle and board a motorcycle but allegedly shot him once he defied them.

Confirming the occurrence in a telephone interview with on Friday, a close acquaintance of the deceased and the African Democratic Congress’ Benue South senatorial candidate, David Olofu, said Salifu died in the early hours of Friday at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

He was a confidant and a member of my campaign council. I found out that Salifu had left Wukari and was traveling to Benue when he ran into thugs on Wukari’s outskirts.

“The bandits shot him after stopping his car and asking him to come down.

He was brought to the teaching hospital in Wukari, but because of the severity of the injuries, we met with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Wukari, who authorized an ambulance to transport him to Abuja with a medical team.

However, he was transported to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi, where he passed away early today, according to Olofu.

It was not immediately possible to determine why Salifu was transported to Makurdi rather than Abuja.

Efforts to acquire the reply of the Taraba State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the time of reporting this story.
