Armed attackers have murdered an Islamic leader, Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, along with his companion, Adamu Abubakar, in the Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The incident was confirmed by the Katsina State Police Command in a statement released late Monday by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq.
The police reported that the assault took place around 7:30 PM on Monday, October 26, 2026, outside the cleric’s home, when two gunmen on a motorcycle shot at the victims.
“The victims were swiftly transported to the closest hospital for treatment, where they were sadly declared dead by the physician on duty,” the statement noted.
The police reported that the Divisional Police Officer in Dutsin-Ma guided a group of operatives to the location following notification of the assault.
Ali Umar Fage, the Commissioner of Police, has instructed the deployment of operational and tactical teams to the region, and an inquiry has begun to locate and apprehend the suspects on the run.
The command stated that the commissioner expressed his sympathies to the families, friends, and supporters of the deceased, along with the residents of Dutsin-Ma.
It stated that the police would persist in their attempts to capture those accountable and hold them accountable, assuring the community that additional updates would be provided.
This occurred just a week after armed assailants fatally shot an active member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and kidnapped a trader in Pushit community, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The event happened around 9:30 pm on Monday, even with a dusk-to-dawn curfew recently enforced in sections of the region after ongoing assaults.
