Nollywood star Destiny Etiko disclosed that she lost ₦5 million after wagering on the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, stating that the incident has dissuaded her from betting in the future.
The actress revealed this in a post on her Instagram account on Monday, just after the World Cup final match between Spain and Argentina ended.
“First time gambling and I lost.” Will not attempt it again. My 5M is missing. Actually, I’ve finished watching football. “Anxiety nearly took my life,” she noted.
Etiko, nonetheless, did not reveal the specific wager she made or offer additional information on how she lost the funds.
Previously, in the World Cup final, the actress posted multiple updates on her Instagram Story, suggesting she was supporting Argentina to win against Spain.
In a single post, she mentioned, “Argentina for sure. “Who is eager?”
During the match, she seemed more and more annoyed with Argentina’s play, commenting, “This ball tough o. “Argentina is making me angry.”
She also commended Argentina’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for helping the defending champions remain competitive, stating, “The goalkeeper is the hero oo.”
It was reported that Spain triumphed over reigning champions Argentina 1-0 following extra time to secure the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday.
Ferran Torres, who came off the bench, netted the critical goal during the second half of extra time to secure Spain their second World Cup championship, 16 years after their first victory in South Africa in 2010.
Argentina finished the match with 10 players after midfielder Enzo Fernández received a second yellow card, while Spain controlled possession before finally scoring through Torres.
