Team Nigeria, made up of 25 athletes, are still searching for their first medal of  the tournament as activities at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar enter Day 3.

The team have so far participated in the men’s 100m and 200m, and men’s 400m hurdles and won no medal.

One of Nigeria’s brightest prospects, Raymond Ekevwo, didn’t make it to the final of the men’s 100m, a race that was eventually won by Christian Coleman. Ekevwo, who is the current African record holder in 100m, placed fifth in 10.20secs.

Though Divine Oduduru and Blessing Okagbare were top medal hopefuls for the country, they withdrew from the 100m to focus on only 200m.

Rilwan Alowonle was eighth in 52.01secs in his semis of the men’s 400m hurdles.

National record holder in the 800m, Edose Ibadin, failed to scale past his heats, finishing sixth in 1:47.91secs.

However, Oduduru qualified for the 200m semis as one of the three fastest losers with a time of 20.40secs, while Alowonle couldn’t progress having emerged seventh.

Meanwhile, the USA are leading the medals table with four gold and four silver; Jamaica second with two gold, one silver, and China third with one gold, silver and bronze each.
