Agents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate have arrested 17 alleged internet fraudsters in coordinated sting operations in the state’s Ilorin and Ifelodun Local Government Area.
A statement by the Head, Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, made available to the press on Tuesday evening said that the suspects were rounded up at Asa Dam, Al-Hikmah University area and Gaa-Odota areas of Ilorin and in Ganmo and Amoyo areas of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
“The arrests which took place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, followed actionable intelligence that linked the suspects to fraudulent internet activities in the state.
“Items recovered from them upon arrest include three luxury vehicles, high-end mobile phones and laptop computers,” the statement added.
The most recent arrests followed those made last week, when 47 suspects were apprehended in Ilorin and Ifelodun LGA after intelligence revealed their fraudulent online operations.
According to the statement, after the investigations are over, the suspects will be arraigned in court.
“48 suspected internet fraudsters and a herbalist were arrested in various locations in Lokoja, Kogi state capital on March 7,2024 for offences bordering on conspiracy and obtaining Money under false pretence,” the EFCC statement said.
The Ilorin zonal Command office of EFCC covers Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states with the zonal headquarters in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
Items recovered from them include 10 exotic cars, two motorcycles, 11 laptops, 83 mobile phones and charms.
The suspects, all male, between the ages of 17 and 34 years, had been arraigned in court.
Also on October 30, 2024, EFCC operatives burst the hideout of Yahoo boys in Offa metropolis in Offa local government area of Kwara state and arrested 55 suspects.
