Dr. Hameem Nuhu, the Emir of Dutse, has suspended a district head and fired a ward head in Jigawa State for allegedly violating emirate council regulations.
The secretary of the Dutse Emirate Council, Amadu Malami announced the disciplinary action in a statement released on Wednesday evening.
The announcement claims that Ibrahim Adamu, the District Head of Kadangare, has been suspended for failing to maintain official property and permitting the dodo funfair to take place on his property.
“The suspension was due to the district head’s failure to adhere to the council’s rules and take care of official property,” the statement read.
The council also approved the dismissal of the ward head of the Lautai community in Kiyawa District, Amadu Iliya, for neglecting official property.
“That the ward head of Lautai was found to have mortgaged a government farm and was collecting excessive amounts of money,” the statement added.
The Emirate Council denounced both leaders’ acts and issued a warning that it would not put up with any behaviour that diminishes the honour of traditional rulership.
Malami said, “The Emir warned all traditional leaders under the emirate to desist from anything capable of tarnishing the image of the emirate and reiterated that anyone who failed to uphold the dignity of his position would be punished accordingly.”
He emphasised that the law prohibiting the dodo carnival is still in force, and anyone who permits it will face disciplinary consequences.
The council’s secretary said that district heads are sworn in to maintain official property and submit to the Emirate Council.
“The suspension and dismissal serve as a warning to other traditional leaders to adhere to the council’s rules.
“The Emir’s warning is clear that traditional leaders must refrain from actions that tarnish the recognised prestige of traditional rulership,” he said.
According to the council, the measures were intended to improve governance and encourage accountability within the traditional institution.
