Dr. Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State has authorized the appointment of new commissioners, board chairmen, managing directors, and executive secretaries to the state executive council and vital agencies.
Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the governor nominated Barrister Osinachi Nnajieze and Dr C.O.C. Egumgbe as commissioners-designate.
“The names of the commissioners-designate have been submitted to the Enugu State House of Assembly for confirmation,” Onyia said.
Additionally, Mbah approved a number of key appointments in strategic agencies.
Kenechukwu Nnamani was appointed Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority, while James Chukwuemeka Mbah was named Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board.
Others appointed include Dr Eric Oluedo as Executive Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pensions Board; Mrs Sylvia Onwubuemeli as Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Library Board; and Monday Diamond Ani as State Coordinator of the Community and Social Development Agency.
The Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board’s Governing Board was also reorganized by the governor.
Newly appointed members include Hon. Afam Nnaji, Dr Mrs. Uche Eze, Dr Mrs. Oge Uka, and representatives from the three senatorial districts of the state—Mrs. Rita Chimaobi Ihemeje (Enugu West), Mrs Justina Ugwu (Enugu North), and Dr Nnenna Ogbonna (Enugu East).
Other members of the board are Theophilus Nweke, representing the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT); Mrs Juliet Ifesinachi Ani, representing state women groups; and Dr Luke Ohabuenyi Ezema, who will serve as Secretary.
Additional approvals cover several strategic agencies and boards. Dr Mrs. Nneka Onyebuchi and Patrick Onwe were appointed members of the Post Primary Schools Management Board, while Barrister Nwabueze Ugwu was named Chairman of the Governing Council of the Enugu State College of Education Technical.
Chief Nwabueze Nnamani was appointed Board Chairman of the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation, while Richard Onaga and Hon. Bob Itanyi were named Managing Directors of the Enugu State Waste Management Agency and the Enugu State Transport Company, respectively.
Other appointments include Barrister Richard Agu as Board Chairman of Enugu Air; Rt. Hon. USA Igwesi as Board Chairman of the New Enugu Smart City Development Authority; Hon. Chika Igwesi as Chairman of the Enugu State Road Maintenance and Development Agency; and Hon. Chidera Odo as Chairman of the Enugu State Roads Fund, with Hon. Barrister Manfred Nzekwe appointed Executive Secretary of the fund.
Dr John Egbo and Hon. Prince Emeka Mamah were appointed Managing Directors of the Enugu East Zone and Enugu North Zone Transport Terminals, respectively, while Rev. Chimaobi Aninwene was named a member of the Enugu State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.
All appointments take effect immediately, according to Onyia, with the exception of the commissioners-designate.
“The governor expects the appointees to bring their expertise and commitment to bear in advancing the administration’s vision for effective governance and sustainable development in Enugu State,” the statement added.
