A fire broke out on Sunday night, destroying part of Mile Six Market in Jalingo, Taraba State.
Eyewitnesses reported on Monday that the incident started around 11 PM, after the traders had already closed the market for the day.
Security sources added that the cause of the fire is still unknown.
Mr Yakubu Sunday, an eyewitness, said, “The cause of the fire is yet to be known, but it was spreading very fast. It was so difficult to control the fire going by its waves at the moment,” he narrated.
“We were gisting close to the main road when we heard shouts of fire. By the time we got there, the entire shops on the building were already on fire,” he continued.
A shop owner, Mr. Moses Baba, said he lost a business valued at millions of Naira to the incident.
“I was spending time with my family at home late evening yesterday when I got a distress call that I should rush to the shop immediately. On arrival, I watched helplessly as my shop was completely engulfed by the flames,” he recounted.
The victims appealed to the Taraba state government, organisations, and well-to-do individuals to come to their aid to ease the pain of the destruction.
