According to the Osun Fire Service, between January and December 2025, fire outbreaks in the state caused the loss of property valued at N5.42 billion.
Statistics obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday show that the service responded to 101 fire incidents across the state during the period under review.
“From January to December, 101 fire calls, 13 special service calls, and two false alarm calls were received.
“Three persons lost their lives in the year under review, with one death recorded each in March, July, and August.
“Sixteen fire outbreaks—the highest—were recorded in November, followed by 15 incidents each in January and February,” said Mr. Ibrahim Adekunle, Assistant Director of Operations, Osun Fire Service.
He added that the fire service saved property valued at N134.4 billion during the same period.
Adekunle attributed most fire outbreaks to human error and urged residents to exercise caution when handling open flames.
He also advised that electrical appliances be switched off and unplugged when leaving homes.
