Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has appointed a new chief of staff at Government House in Port Harcourt as well as a new secretary to the state government.
The governor named Mr. Sunny Ewule as his new Chief of Staff and Dagogo Wokoma as his new SST, according to a statement released on Thursday.
The appointments were contained in a Special Government Announcement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, and made available to journalists.
The two appointments are effective immediately, the statement said.
The former occupants of the offices were removed without explanation.
It added that the new appointees will be sworn in at 2pm at Government House, Port Harcourt.
The statement read, “The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff.
“Both appointments are with immediate effect. The new appointees will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, February 26, 2026.
“The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.”
Edison Ehie is replaced by the new Chief of Staff, while Mr. Benibo Anabraba is replaced by the new SSG.
Ehie’s role had earlier sparked speculation following President Bola Tinubu initial intervention in the political crisis rocking the state, amid claims from sources that he had been operating in the capacity behind the scenes.
The new appointments are believed to be a fallout of the recent reconciliation between Fubara and his former political ally, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, after Tinubu intervened to halt the planned impeachment of the governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly and brokered peace between the two leaders.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, during plenary last week, said the House had officially withdrawn its impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, following the President’s intervention.
Fubara recently stripped all of his Special Advisers of their responsibilities and dissolved his cabinet of eight commissioners.
