The Niger State Police Command has revealed that terrorists in the state have set shops on fire and killed four people.
Terrorists stormed Damala village in Woko District of Borgu Local Government Area in an early-morning attack on Saturday driving villagers to flee in all directions in search of protection.
An unknown number of locals were also kidnapped during the assault, according to a community source.
The raid occurred a few days after a large-scale terrorist attack on the Kasuwan Daji Market in Demo village, also in Borgu Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of at least 42 persons and the kidnapping of others.
Wasiu Abiodun, the Niger State Police Command spokesperson responded to the attack by stating in a statement on Tuesday that the bandits killed four people and rustled several animals.
“The bandits attacked Damala village in Woko District of Borgu LGA, rustled an unspecified number of cattle, and killed four residents during the attack.
“The gunmen also set several shops in the community ablaze before fleeing the scene.
“Security agencies promptly responded to the incident and have since visited the affected area.
“Clearance operations are currently ongoing, while security monitoring has been intensified to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of residents,” Abiodun stated.
He reassured the public that measures were being made to apprehend the offenders and restore normalcy in the area.
Terrorist assaults have recently become more frequent in Niger State’s Borgu and Agwara local government regions.
Apart from the killing of over 42 residents at Kasuwan Daji Market in Borgu, terrorists had earlier kidnapped 315 pupils, students and teachers of St Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Paipiri community, Agwara Local Government Area.
After a month in captivity, the abductees were released following intervention by the federal government.
