Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested a man, Ifeanyi Mba, in connection with an alleged N10m land fraud.
The agency disclosed the arrest on its official X handle on Monday.
According to the EFCC, Mba was apprehended following a petition alleging that the complainant paid him N10m for a plot of land located at Plot 677 Owo/Premier Layout in Ogui Nike, Enugu State.
The petitioner, however, later discovered that the land was already under development by unknown persons. Efforts to recover the money from Mba reportedly failed, as he could no longer be reached.
The statement added that preliminary investigations by the commission showed that there was no Plot 677 Owo/Premier within the government-acquired areas, noting that Owo and Premier are separate layouts.
The suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The arrest adds to other prosecutions handled by the EFCC Enugu Zonal Directorate. In January, the agency facilitated the recovery of N1.28bn from Sujimoto Luxury Construction Ltd. following an investigation into the alleged diversion of funds meant for the construction of Smart Green Schools across Enugu State.
The recovered funds, which forms part of payments made for abandoned or unexecuted projects, were handed over to the state government at the EFCC Enugu Zonal Office.
