An ex-convict is accused of fatally stabbing his coworker, simply known as Dada after an argument in Akute, Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State.
According to reports, the incident, which happened early on Saturday, caused fear in the neighborhood as store owners quickly closed and left the area.
Our correspondent discovered that the suspect fled the scene immediately after stabbing the victim in the neck, despite the fact that eyewitnesses were unable to determine what caused the altercation between the victim and the suspect, who was characterized as known for crimes.
Dada stabbed the suspect in the hand after an argument, according to an eyewitness named only as Gabriel who spoke to our correspondent on Saturday.
“They were fighting with one another.” The suspect was first stabbed in the hand by Dada. Everyone in this room is aware of the suspect’s notoriety. He recently got out of jail.
“Those who saw what happened told Dada to get out of there right now. He didn’t listen, though. After that cut, the culprit had departed the location this time. He simply came back with a weapon a few minutes later.
“He gave Dada a neck stab.” He passed away on the way to the hospital despite bystanders applying pressure to his wounds.
Samuel, another eyewitness, stated that after Dada died en route to the hospital, his body was left by the side of the road.
He was hurried to the hospital by some. However, they left the body on the road after realizing he had passed away and then called the police to report the incident.
“As soon as they got there, a few officers began raiding anyone they saw hanging around the bus stop.”
The suspect was well-known in the community, according to a police source under the condition of anonymity due to a lack of authorization to discuss the matter.
“A location exists beneath the Akute bridge. The location is typically used as a hiding place by these thugs. The incident took place in the hideout. Dada was the common name for the man who was murdered. The suspect’s name is unknown to me.
“The chairman has started fencing the area beneath the bridge to prevent these thugs from using it as a hiding place.
Numerous crimes, including phone theft, have been reported in the neighborhood. It is an issue if you pass that location at nite. Our men are typically stationed there at nite for this reason. The suspect is still being sought after.
When contacted on Sunday, Opeyemi Oluborode, the Ogun State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the occurrence via a WhatsApp message and stated that the command was pursuing the suspect.
“The command is very much aware of the case,” he wrote. and has significantly stepped their attempts to locate and capture the escaping suspect.
This is the second time a fatal stabbing has been reported in the area. The first incident happened in February, when a member of the transport union tax collection group, known as agberos, fatally stabbed a commercial motorcyclist after an argument over a N100 ticket.
Commercial motorcycle riders in the communities of Lambe, Agbado, and Akute protested the occurrence.
