The senator representing the Ondo South Senatorial District of Ondo State, Nicholas Tofowomo, escaped death on Friday as his vehicle was involved in a road accident on Ilesa-Akure Expressway in Igbara Oke, Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

The accident also involved a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, in the state, Mr. Banji Okunomo and two other members of the party, who were said to be with the senator.

A source, however, said nobody died in the accident but the senator and other victims were injured. They were said to have been quickly rushed to the Trauma Center Ondo where they were receiving treatment.

The State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Zadok Akintoye, who confirmed the incident to reporters on Saturday said, the senator and four others involved in the accident were returning to Akure, the state capital from Ibadan, Oyo State.

Akintoye, who appreciated the efforts of the medical team at the Trauma Centre in Ondo and a public ambulance for coming to the victims’ rescue, said the victims were recovering at the hospital.

He said, “Our party yet again commend the brilliance of our doctors and medical professionals for their efforts.”

The Sector Commander of the Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Rotimi Adeleye, who visited the senator at the hospital, said he (senator) was responding to treatment

It was gathered that the FRSC boss’ visit was in line with the corps’ policy of post-rescue follow-up on victims’ care
