Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 22-year-old carpenter, Auwal Mohammed, for allegedly stealing four 43-inch plasma televisions in the state.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released late Monday by the command’s spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, who said the suspect resides in the Sabon Railway area of Bauchi metropolis.
He explained that “Auwal Mohammed, who was working as a carpenter at the residence of an unidentified individual, reportedly discovered the new televisions in one of the rooms of the premises.
“It is reported that he subsequently relocated the televisions to a concealed area within the house, where they remained for around two weeks.
“Following this period, he is said to have taken the televisions to the residence of a neighbour for safekeeping and received a sum of N50,000 as credit.”
Wakil revealed that further investigation showed the suspect sold one of the stolen 43-inch televisions to a known receiver of stolen goods for N40,000.
He added that efforts are underway to apprehend his accomplice and recover the remaining stolen items.
Wakil also noted that the investigation is ongoing, and upon conclusion, Mohammed will be formally profiled and charged in a court of law.
