In separate intelligence-led operations, the Kano State Police Command apprehended three suspected car thieves and recovered a maroon Pontiac and four purportedly stolen tricycles.

In a statement released on Tuesday, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, said that the activities required cooperation with security formations from other states.

The first case started on August 4 after Abubakar Ali of Danmarke, Hotoro Quarters, reported to the Bompai Police Division that his tricycle had been stolen.

The police claim that Ali picked up Muhammad Sani, 23, as a passenger while traveling down Hadejia Road.

According to the statement, “the complainant said he was riding along Hadejia Road when he picked up a 23-year-old passenger, Muhammad Sani, at Sufi Mart.”

Sani, who appeared ill and had bandages on his hand and leg, allegedly asked the rider to stop at a shop so he could buy some things, according to the police.

The suspect used another key to ignite the tricycle and drove away while the complainant was away, according to the police.

A patrol squad from the Bichi Police Division arrested Sani after Bompai police informed nearby divisions about the report.

After tracking the operation to Katsina State, investigators detained 33-year-old Aminu Saad, another suspected syndicate member. He was found in possession of four suspected stolen tricycles.

According to the command, Saad admitted to being a member of the syndicate, and the tricycles were allegedly stolen using a similar technique.

“While an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate, the four recovered tricycles have since been given to their rightful owners,” Kiyawa stated.

On July 25, members of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad detained 23-year-old Isah Yusuf of Titin Jajira, Rijiyar Lemo, Kano.

According to police, Yusuf was seen driving a maroon Pontiac without a license plate. He claimed to have bought it from Ashiru Mohammed, better known as Mai Gold, in the Niger Republic.

However, more research showed that the car had been stolen from Taraba State, transported to the Niger Republic, sold to a dealer, and then returned to Nigeria.

Through the Anti-Kidnapping Squad or the PPRO’s office at the Bompai Police Headquarters, the command urged the vehicle’s legitimate owner to come forward with proof of ownership.

Ibrahim Bakori, the Commissioner of Police, praised the police for the operations and recoveries in his remarks regarding the arrests.

“These developments highlight the significance of intelligence-driven law enforcement and efficient cooperation between our formations, especially across state lines,” Bakori stated.

He gave the locals his word that the command will continue to use the IGP’s Handshake Patrol technique to stop illegal activity.

He declared, “We will continue to work with the people of Kano State to identify and dismantle criminal networks operating within the state and its environs.”

Additionally, the commissioner advised locals to be watchful and to notify the police right away of any suspicious activity.
