According to the FCT Police Command, CA2 Usman Ishaya Magaji, the correctional officer who shot Ibrahim Rahim Yahaya of Gishiri Village Mabushi and caused Tuesday’s civil unrest and mob activity at Wuse Market, has been taken into custody.

Recall that the said Ibrahim Yahaya have not been convicted by an FCT mobile court, He was being taken to prison when he jumped off the vehicle and tried to escape before he was shot.

“The suspect (Correctional Officer) is currently in police custody as investigation is ongoing,” the FCT Police Command stated in a statement.

The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Benneth Igweh, led a group of police officers to Wuse on Tuesday to put an end to the civil disorder in Wuse Market, which was reported to have started at about 3:30 p.m.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that one Ibrahim Yahaya ’27 years’ was caught by operatives of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Task Force and was taken before a mobile court which sits every Tuesday in Wuse Market, and he was found guilty,” stated a statement from Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.

The suspect apparently leaped from the car and started running while being conveyed alongside others to the prison. Two armed prison officers pursued him and shot him in the process. He was rushed to the neighboring hospital instantly, where doctors confirmed him dead.

The incident led some enraged mobs to set fire to ten(10) nearby shops and eight (8) nearby automobiles.

Residents were outraged by the entire fire scenario, but the Federal Fire Service and other on-site security organizations worked together to keep it under control.
