Two suspected members of a “one-chance” robbery racket operating in the city of Abeokuta have been taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command.
Following an intelligence-led operation by members of the Violent Crime Response Unit, the suspects, Bidemi Tijani, 29, and Olajide Rasaq, 42, were taken into custody on August 15.
In a statement released on Tuesday by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command stated that the suspects were taken into custody following information that members of the syndicate, posing as commercial taxi drivers, were spotted in a taxi traveling to Ita-Oshin, Abeokuta.
Tactical officers from the VCRU responded quickly to the tip, chasing the robbers as they fled near Ita-Oshin, intercepting the car and capturing the two suspects.
Both suspects admitted to being active members of the “One Chance” robbery syndicate that terrorized commuters in the city of Abeokuta after being questioned and having their testimonies recorded under caution.
The statement stated, “Operatives are currently stepping up efforts to locate and capture additional fugitive members of the syndicate, determine the full scope of their activities, and recover necessary exhibits.”
The VCRU officers were praised by Ogun State Command Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni for their quick response, operational alertness, and tactical professionalism.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s dedication to stopping criminal activity in the state and cautioned that Ogun State would not be a shelter for criminals.
He advised locals and commuters to be on the lookout for suspicious individuals or criminal activity and to notify the police right away via Gateway Shield, 0800 000 9111, or the emergency lines, 09164859299 and 09154293464.
