The Kebbi State Police Command has announced increased security measures throughout the state ahead of the Yuletide festivities, reassuring citizens that it is prepared to uphold public safety and peace both before and after the festive period.
The change coincides with plans for more social events, interstate travel, and public get-togethers that are customarily connected to Christmas and end-of-year festivities.
According to the Police, the plans would also cover the Nigeria Labour Congress’s scheduled statewide protest, which takes place around the same period.
The Commissioner of Police was cited by Police Public Relations Officer SP Bashir Usman in a statement released on Thursday, stating that the Command had deployed sufficient troops to key areas to guarantee a peaceful celebration across Kebbi State.
“The Kebbi State Police Command is fully prepared to ensure the safety of lives and property before, during, and after the Yuletide celebrations,” the statement said.
The Command stated that in order to discourage criminal activity frequently connected to the festive season, security has been bolstered near places of worship, marketplaces, motor parks, recreational sites, and key highways.
“We recognize the constitutional right of citizens to peaceful protest, and adequate measures have been put in place to ensure that any lawful assembly during this period is not hijacked by miscreants,” the police said.
The Command has increased patrols, enhanced intelligence-led operations, and implemented a conspicuous display of force, according to the statement in order to proactively avert any breakdown of law and order.
“Our officers will be visibly deployed across the state to enhance operational visibility, deter criminal elements, and provide reassurance to law-abiding residents during the festivities,” it noted.
Residents were asked to be alert and assist security personnel by reporting suspicious activity or situations promptly.
“Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or emergency situation to the Police Control Room on 08038797644 or 09015888578,” the statement added.
The Kebbi State Police Command urged locals to rejoice responsibly and go about their celebrations without fear, reiterating its commitment to maintaining peace throughout the Yuletide season and beyond.
